Emilie Bloom

Emilie Bloom is a comedic actor, physical comedy performer, designer, and maker specialising in clown and costume.

She attended the Paris-based institute, L'Ecole Philippe Gaulier. based on Jacques Lecoq ́s Pedagogy. During these intensive 2 years, she trained in clown, bouffon, character, Shakespeare/Chekhov, le jour, melodrama, writing, and directing with Phillippe Gaulier, Aitor Basauri (Spymonkey ), Kristine Landon- Smith (NIDA, Tamasha Theatre), and Nicole Kehrberger (Barfuss Theater).

After completing her training in Paris, Emilie was accepted into a Directors Mentorship and Internship with Tamasha Theatre Company on A Sweet Cider Directed by Kristine Landon Smith (Director and Co-Founder of Tamasha Theatre Company) Here, she went on to perform with Tamasha Theatre Company at Hampstead Theatre in London, UK and worked as an Assistant to the Director with Kristen Landon-Smith in a Cultural Exchange Program with London's Circus Space.

A key component of Emilie's creative practice involves the inquiry of historical references within a thorough research process. Emilie creates design journals using images, drawings, and text that often move into digital platforms for collaboration. Aesthetic considerations drive the development of the characters, costumes, puppets, and theatrical world Emilie dreams about. Using found detritus, materials, and fabrics from her studio and the street or recycle shops for construction, Emilie commits to repurposing and transforming materials for magical art-making.

In 2010 Emilie co-created independent contemporary vaudeville company Porcelain Punch with some of Australia's most skilled circus and musical performers. For the next 8 years, the Porcelain Punch ensemble toured extensively throughout Australia, producing iconic productions such as The Traveling Medicine Show ' and 'FIN' ( Directed by Derek Ives) supported by the Australia Council and City of Yarra.

Alternating bouffon with the vulnerable clown, Emilie's work generates gentle ridiculous humour for a series of characters performed for variety shows, installations, roving, festivals. existing companies, community festivals, and community arts projects.

Her work and life experiences have given her the privilege of traveling extensively Throughout New Zealand, Japan, the UK, Europe, and Australia. In 2019 she played a dark and comedic role in the short film The Private Part Written and Directed by Faezeh Alavi (Melbourne International Film Festival). She Co-Starred in the screen iteration of Patricia Cornelius's multi-award-winning play SHIT, Directed by Patricia Susie Dee and Trudy Hellier.

In 2021 Emilie Bloom and Nicci Wilks (Bloom & Wilks) premiered their physical comedy satire Tale Of Two Harpies Co-created and Directed by Susie Dee) presented at Hothouse Theatre as part of the Borderville Festival.

Emilie is currently developing a first solo theatre show for children for 2022/23. She continues to work as a Clown Doctor with the Humour Foundation and is pursuing a Masters In Creative Arts Therapy with the MIECAT Institute
